I'm alive! Elossssa!

Jeez guys! I'ts unbeliveable how time like umm 3 months pass that quickly!

 Seriously I got a job in November and since then I had to work and do my thesis in my limited free time. However I finished my thesis and presented it about a week ago quite like confirming that I've successfully ended my studies! You might call me a horticulturist now! I'm still waiting for true and official papers but yeah it took me 3,5 years to pass my Bachelor's Degree. And oh yeah I'm going to U.S in March for 6 months! Its time to flee cold and gloomy Finland and go back to help MBRS again! :-)

A lot has happened with my plants which means quite much hence need to dedicate a seperate post for 'em.

new sarra seeds!

So today I went pick up a letter that I had received from frangelo (cpuk). I got the leuco seeds (LL 51 Leuco Russel Road x L9mk ALBA ) from him 3 years ago and those babies have grown very nicely! I think I have around 5-6 plants from the batch of 25 seeds. None of the m have flowered so far but maybe next year?

I was delighted to hear that frangelo had some last year's seeds though he didn't make any this season. I've grown well sorta old seeds from Tricky Utrici and I'm not worried at all to start growing 1 year old seeds.




I'm about to put the seeds in stratification tomorrow but to remind me in the future here's what I got:

Plant package from Christian Klein

  I went to pick my first plant package of this year. It was actually sopposed to arrive a week ago, but Christian was busy and it was delayed because of that.  Fortunately he included a few bonus plants to compensate time that I had to wait.

So I ordered these:

   Kävin eilen hakemassa postissa vuoden ensimmäåisen kasvitilauksen joka tuli Saksasta. Sen piti tulla jo viikko sitten, mutta myyjällä oli kiirettä ja se lähtikin viikko myöhästä (jonka takia sainkin bonuskasveja). En ollu koskaan tilannu heiltä joten oli kiva yllätys kun kaikki kasvit oli hyväkuntoisia ja isoja.

More repotting work done today with veined flavas.. We had to wrapup earlier today since our area got a thunderstorm warning. However we never got one today and boys and i headed to fish even though it was bit raining and yeahh we could hear thunder (inserted video below).. :)


Tänään jatkettiin Tysonin kaa "supersuonisten" keltatötterölehtien (S.flava var ornata) uudelleen ruukuttamista. Iltapäiväks tuli varoitus kovasta ukonilmasta, jota noh ei sitten tullukaan.. Sittenpä lähettiin poikien kanssa kalaan! Mä sain kolme kalaa tällä kertaa ja aina ne jaksaa ihmetellä miten mä saan eniten meistä kalaa :-D

Today called for a persistent mind since we started to repot/groom/find Sarracenia that grow in sedge filled pots. I don't have a clue how many years they've been like that but well we are here to help and solce problems! We ended up finding quite many plants but without labels. That means that they must be sold because we don't know for sure their parentage.

So our "boys" headed out to town for River Fest in Frdericksburg. I had already been there with Phil earlier this year  (Earth Day) so I gladly gave my position as another sales person to Tyson. I cleaned the house, mopped and vacuumed and browsed around taking photos :-)

Pojat osallistu tänään läheisessä kaupungissa  joen varrella järjestettyyn toritapahtumaan. Mä olin ollut samaisessa paikassa Philin kanssa aikasemmin keväällä joten passasin mieluusti tämän kerran. Pitää viikonloppuna joskus rauhottuukin. No mä imuroin ja moppasin talon sekä tein sipulipiirakkaa :)

We repotted, groomed and divided today maany sarrs. Continued with green leucos and moved then to native purps and lastly x Lemons.

Tötterölehtien ruukuttelua, jakamista, siistimistä yms. Tein pojille täytettyjä lettuja illalliseks :)

Free Monday and a package from Finland

This day told short: Sarracenia trimming, a package from Finland and I made cinnamon rolls.

Lauantain menojen takia tää päivä on ns. vapaa, tosin tein 9:30-17 pituisen päivän. Tötterölehtien trimmailu jatkuu eelleen. Tänään sain kaksi kohopenkina aluetta tehtyä, S. leuco x rubraa ja S.leucoa. Sitten saapui paketti kotoa, ja olihan sielllä joo mielenkiintoista tavaraa... Tuli vähän taas sellainen aliarvioitu fiilis että "kun et voi sieltä ostaa niin me lähetetään sulle perusjuttuja" ^^; Oikeasti, täältä saa kaupasta mm. aurinkorasvaa,, mutta suklaa tulee ainakin tarpeeseen, tack!







Paketista löyty myös kardemummaa jota en  tajunnut ostaa Giantsista. Jotenka aloin seittemältä illalta leipomaan korvapuusteja! Mitä niitä kuumina maistelin niin tais tulla hieman kuivia (?). Ehkä olis pitänny käyttää ihan rasvaarasvaa canola-ölyn sijaan.

No jaa.

Seedlings grow grow!

    Lapset kasvaa nopeasti, vaikkakin näin talvikuukausina aika tuntuu kuluvan hitaasti ja tuntuu etteivät kasvit kasva maksimaalista nopeuttaan. Noh, sitä kutsutaan talveksi. Ylemmässä kuvassa itse risteyttämäni kannukasvin taimet 9kk isäisinä ja alempana 3kk ikäisiä tötterölehden taimia

  Babies sure do grow up fast! My Nepenthes (x Tiveyi x veitchii) seedling are now 9-month old and those Sarracenia an a few Drosera are 3-month-old.

seeds are sprouting!

Yes! Sarracenia seeds have started to sprout! I kept them in fridge for 5 weeks (25.11.-27.12.1.) , sow them 6.1.16 and the first signs of germination were spotted 16.1. (10 days) but now they seem to pop up greatly.

  
Tötterölehtiä on alkannu itämään viime viikon jälkeen ihan kohtuudella. Nämä tötterölehden sekä muut kärpäsloukun siemenet on ollu ensin 5 viikkoa jääkaapissa jonka jälkeen 2 viikkoa kasvilamppujen alla.
